US small business signals pessimism.
The NFIB (Federation of Independent Businesses) optimism index showed a decline from 90.1 in April to 89 in May. The main challenges are labour market and inflation. At the same time, the impact of inflation is weakening—the number of those who are raising prices is decreasing. And tensions with the workforce are increasing—the proportion of those who note problems with both quality and quantity of staff is rising.
